Naturally, many of our visitors take advantage of our proximity to London. Reading station is a few minutes’ drive or taxi ride away, and a further short train journey will take you straight into Paddington station. The French Horn is the perfect location for a stress-free trip to the capital.

Staying with us is a great way to experience London. You can jump on a train and experience the amazing atmosphere, then escape back to a calmer section of the River Thames at The French Horn.

As well as London, there are many other attractions close to the hotel. Sunningdale and Wentworth golf courses are nearby - and Sonning on Thames itself has a scenic golf course. If you are going to the races at Ascot or Newbury, both racecourses are just a quick trip away. Henley on Thames, home of the famous regatta, is nearby - there is even a pleasant 9-mile riverside walk from Reading to Henley, which passes through Sonning on Thames.

For guests with an interest in heritage, Blenheim Palace, Stratfield Saye House and Windsor Castle are just some of the historic buildings in the area. As a Pride of Britain Hotel, we are partners with the National Trust – their properties nearby include Greys Court, Basildon Park and fascinating sixteenth-century house, The Vyne.

We are lucky to have a theatre in the village, The Mill at Sonning, and there are also theatres in Reading (The Hexagon) and Windsor (The Theatre Royal).

Reading’s premier retail centre, The Oracle, is a few minutes’ drive away, and has over eighty stores as well as cafes and bars. For a more relaxing day, we recommend the idyllic Nirvana Spa in Wokingham – we work in partnership with them, and our guests may become day members.

For children – and to be honest, grown-ups as well! – Legoland is nearby, as is The Living Rainforest at Newbury.

Of course, you may decide to spend your time just relaxing in Sonning, enjoying the idyllic riverside setting, and the comfort and good food at The French Horn.
